I think that's all of them

Fuck.

To be honest, after Whitner left, this one surprises me less. I'm a little upset they both left, but hey, I think a ashton/donte for vince young is a good trade.

Christ. So that's 9 out of 11 defensive starters gone. And yes, after Whitner declared, I have no rational reason why, but I assumed Youboty would go, too.

So...how many points per game will Troy Smith and his 10 other highly offensive players need to score to go undefeated in '06?

Lots.

The Bucks will be extraordinarily highly-ranked in the preseason, because prognosticators are idiots and will look at the offense and say "holy crap" and look at what was lost on defense and say "yeah, but..." Because offense is always more highly regarded than defense. And that's what makes those people stupid.

I know it's early, but the Vegas lines are out already and the Bucks head the list at 5-1, with the Domers following closely at 6-1. So what does this tell us? Vegas hates defense.

I bet you assumed Youboty would declare because Whitner declaring makes less sense than Youboty declaring. Does anyone outside of the Big 10 have any idea who Whitner is??

Also, Gene Wojciechowski wrote a pretty solid article about a tough subject: why people should be a little more understanding towards Clarrett and Marcus Vick.

Well-written and interesting.

...but they're still dipshits.

I was wondering when the first "Hey, get off his back/you don't know what he's been through/you can't judge him" piece would get written about Clarett and/or Vick. In the mainstream sports media these days, you just ain't working hard enough if you don't have a column out there that's completely contrary to what 90% of the sensible population thinks. "I'M PRESENTING A RADICALLY DIFFERENT OPINION! READ MY COLUMN!" It's a reverse-puff-piece.

So I can't judge these guys, Gene? I can't point out the fact that these two idiots who - despite their admittedly impoverished and dangerous backgrounds - WERE HANDED A FRIGGIN' TICKET TO MILLIONAIRE-HOOD, have gone on to make NOTHING BUT HORRENDOUS, IRRESPONSIBLE, AND SOCIALLY INEPT DECISIONS in the wake of said opportunity? Despite those horrific upbringings, these guys were on the gravy train to the NFL. All of that bullshit was behind them. And then THEY THEMSELVES made NUMEROUS idiotic decisions which have contributed to their plummetting value to the people who have the means and opportunity to better their lives. You're "not going to judge them," Gene? You're going to leave that "for someone else to do"? Well, the job's filled. Thanks.

So true... Gene's article presents about as compelling an argument as you can make for the sympathetic viewpoint. It's well-written in that regard.

However, there is simply no getting around the fact that Clarrett and Vick are certified idiots. The opportunities those guys had in the palms of their hands...
